Michael Bankston, an assistant district attorney in the South Georgia Judicial Circuit and a candidate for superior court judge, will attend a hearing before Judge Kelly D. Turner, senior state court judge in Lowndes County, on May 24 for a DUI case he was arrested for in December 2015.
Bankston’s case was filed as an administrative dismissal and nolle prose on Feb. 16 by the Prosecuting Attorneys’ Council of Georgia and was originally reported as dismissed. However, a presiding judge never signed the document.
Following the administrative dismissal, one judge has recused himself from hearing the case. On April 8 an order was filed by the State of Georgia to appoint Judge Turner to the case.
May 24 is the date of the Primary Election. Bankston’s hearing will take place at 2 p.m. in Camilla.
Bankston was contacted but declined to comment.
According to a Georgia State Patrol crash report, on Dec. 16, 2015, at 2:15 a.m., Bankston was traveling west on Georgia 93 in Baconton and was given a green light to cross Georgia 300. A semi-truck driving north on 300 attempted to beat a red light and sped through the intersection. Bankston’s vehicle T-boned the side of the truck. Neither driver was injured in the crash.
