Bearcats compete in state track meet

Coach Larry Cosby’s Bainbridge High School Bearcats track team turned in some strong efforts at the State Class AAAA Track Meet in Jefferson over the weekend leading them to a 13th place finish in a strong 40 team field.
Poncherella Leonard finished seventh in the 1600 meter run and set a new school and personal best record with a time of 4:22.96 minutes. Leonard also finished seventh in the 3200 run with a time of 9:33.25 minutes setting a new school record and running his best time. Jaylin Scott, who is only a sophomore, finished third in the state in the 300 hurdles with a time of 39.30 seconds. He also finished 12th in the 110 hurdles with a time of 15.63 seconds.
Danbrell Harris finished third in the state in the 110 hurdles with a time of 14.93 seconds and sixth in the 300 hurdles with a time of 40.06.
Zyon McGee also competed in the meet, finishing 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 42 feet 8 inches.
“Our State Meet performers deserve special congratulations because they presented our school with class and dignity,” coach Cosby said. “They had great performances.”
