Larry Mathis Jr., was arrested and charged with two counts of aggravated assault, one count of possession of arms by a convicted felon and one count of possession of firearm while trying to commit a crime. The charges stemmed from an August shooting at Rivers Apartments.
Two victims suffered injuries in the shooting when Mathis Jr. allegedly fired into a crowd that had gathered for a large fight. As reported at the time, it was believed that during the course of the fight something was said to Mathis Jr. that upset him. It is believed that Mathis exited his car with a 16-gauge shotgun loaded with 20-gauge shells and fired into the crowd twice before the gun jammed.
Warrants were taken out for his arrest and the U.S. Marshals and the Career Criminals Unity in Tallahassee picked him up late last week.
Bainbridge Public Safety Investigator Chris Jordan said that there are still pending arrests in the case and multiple people will be presented before the grand jury for possible indictments.
