Nick Williams experience as a freshman University of Georgia Bulldogs football player in 2008 couldn’t have been more rewarding.

That was the feeling the former Bainbridge High School Bearcats quarterback and defensive back expressed during a Monday visit to “The Post-Searchlight”.

“I had the opportunity to play on kickoffs, kickoff returns, punts and punt returns as a true freshman,” he said. “I was supposed to start at outside linebacker against Georgia Tech, but I got a high ankle sprain in practice the Tuesday of game week.

“I know I’ve still got a lot to learn, but getting a chance to play as a freshman gave me some valuable experience.”

Williams, son of Percy and Burnette Williams, said a he is also adjusting well to college academic life.

“During a typical day in the fall, I attend study hall, go to class, lift weights and run, practice, then lift weights and run again,” he said.

‘Right now I am just taking my basic freshman courses, but I plan to major in sports management and hope to coach some day.”

Williams says Bulldogs head coach Mark Richt has a motto which all the players believe in and adhere to.

“Our coaches motto is finish the drill,” the former Bearcat said. “If we don’t finish the drill in the weight room and on the field, we are not doing our job.

“We couldn’t have ended the season on a better note, defeating the Michigan State University Spartans 24-12 in the Capital One Bowl New Year’s Day in Orlando, Fla.
