Thirteen-year-old Trey Walker of Boy Scout Troop 502 is holding a 5,000-meter, 3.1- mile Eagle Trot Saturday, Aug. 7, at the Earle May Boat Basin to benefit the Bainbridge-Decatur County Humane Society for his Eagle Scout project.
There will also be a one-mile fun run for elementary age and younger children.
Walker, son of Rhonda and Billy Walker, and grandson of Monroe and Mary Ann Godwin, said he chose the Humane Society for his Eagle project because of his love and compassion for animals.
“We adopted a dog from the Humane Society, and I saw how much time, effort and love our dog and the other animals there needed and got,” he said.
A rising eighth-grader at Bainbridge Middle School, Walker plays the trombone and marches with the award-winning Bainbridge High School Bearcat Band. He is also a member of the Bainbridge Middle School cross country and quiz bowl teams and the First Baptist Church youth group.
He says his Scout master, John Reynolds, inspires all of the troop members to work hard and go far. The troop is sponsored by the Bainbridge Rotary Club.
Entry fees will be $15 for the 5,000-meter run and $5 for the fun run. All fun run participants will receive ribbons.
Registration will begin at 7 a.m. on the day of the events.
