Tigers take down Jackets, 56-50

The Hutto Middle School seventh-grade Tigers downed the Thomas County Central seventh-grade Yellow Jackets 56-50 Monday to move their record to 5-0.
In the opener, at Hutto’s Bynes-Greenlee Gymnasium, Central’s Lady Yellow Jackets downed Hutto’s Lady Tigers, who are 1-4 on the season, 42-9.
Dixie Landy led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 8 points. Breanna Butler added 1.
The Lady Yellow Jackets were led by Kaeci Guyton with 13. Erica Harvey and Ashley Hayes scored 7 apiece and Kenyetta Jones scored 4.
In the boys game, the Yellow Jackets led by three, 29-26, at halftime. They were paced by a 13-point first half effort by Mike Jones, who took game scoring honors with 32.
Jones had two field goals and a free throw for 5 in the first quarter and four field goals for 8 in the second quarter.
He added three field goals and three free throws for 9 to pace a 13-point Tigers third quarter.
Jones rounded out his outstanding offensive output with four field goals, two free throws and a 10-point performance in the fourth quarter.
Behind Jones in the Tigers scoring chart Monday were Carlos Hughes with 10, Devonte Holley with 4, Stephen Johnson and Deon Thomas with 3 apiece, and Dominique Douglas and Greg Cooper with 2 each.
The Tigers and Lady Tigers will conclude their seasons next Tuesday when they travel to Thomas County for rematches with the Yellow Jackets and Lady Yellow Jackets.
The girls game will begin at 4:30 p.m. and the boys game will follow at 6 p.m.
