Grace scores big

Leonard Sheppard and Anthony Henderson poured in 25 points apiece and Brock Bailey pumped in 20, leading recent losing efforts by the Grace Christian Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars basketball teams.

The Cougars, who are 14-5 overall and 2-1 in Panhandle Christian Conference play, dropped a close 84-79 decision to Covenant School Friday, Jan. 9 in Panama City, Fla.

A day earlier, the Lady Cougars, who are 4-12 overall but 2-1 in Panhandle Christian Conference play, bowed 61-37 to Robert F. Munroe High School of Quincy, Fla. on their home court at Perry Memorial Gymnasium.

The Cougars featured a balanced scoring attack against Covenant. Behind co-leading scorers Sheppard and Henderson were Trea Kelly with 11, Jared Long with 9, Jon Ward with 7 and Taylor McDonald with 2.

In the girls game with Robert F. Munroe, Bailey scored 17 of her 20 points in the second half. Her three first half points came on a three point first quarter jumper.

She added five in the third quarter on two field goals and a free throw, then concluded her scoring effort with 12 in the fourth quarter when she hit four field goals and four free throws.

Rounding out the Lady Cougars scoring chart against Robert F. Munroe were Emma Heard with 6, Jasmine Kelly with 5, Rachel Harrell with 3, Elisabeth Soden with 2 and Logan Worsham with 1.
