Timothy J. Thompson, a 2001 graduate of Florida State University with a bachelor’s in education, who has a background in various areas of tennis, is the new City of Bainbridge tennis director.
He replaces Derek Ameel, who resigned last December to accept a position as tennis director at his alma mater, Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Mich.
Thompson, whose wife, Helen-Jean, is a nurse, developed the junior tennis program and coordinated camps, clinics and tournaments at Golden Eagle Country Club in Tallahassee.
Bainbridge Leisure Services Director Al Kelley says he is very impressed with Thompson, who will begin his duties here on Monday, Feb. 23, and his strong tennis background.
That background includes a couple of positions with the City of Tallahassee. He was assistant professional tennis instructor and USA Tennis instructor.
During a Monday telephone conversation, Thompson, who is currently the teaching professional at a country club in Alpharetta, Ga., said he is excited about coming to Bainbridge and getting started in his new position as tennis director.
“It’s obvious the facility you have there in Bainbridge is outstanding and not that old,” Thompson said. “I’m looking forward to working hard and advancing the great work that has already been done there.”
