Bentley’s new album is solid

The string of hit albums for Dierks Bentley doesn’t appear to be ending anytime soon. Bentley’s recently released fifth album, Feel That Fire, on Capitol Nashville contains songs of loving, partying, and getting out of trouble. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard Country Album chart, before being overtaken by superstar Taylor Swift.
The title track of the album was the first single released to radio off the new album and earned Bentley his sixth number one single. And the next single, Sideways, is destined to be his seventh.
Bentley is a cool, nouveau country singer that has cross-over appeal to both an older and younger audience, similar to Jason Aldean, Blake Shelton, and Keith Urban. His songs are about chasing girls, having a good time, and lost love.
Bentley adds a songwriter credit on 11 of the album’s 13 tracks, collaborating with Rodney Crowell on Pray and Radney Foster on Do It Well. On Beautiful World, the sugary sweet voice of Patty Griffin joins Bentley in a flowing ditty about appreciating the little things in life, even among the world’s troubles.
I Want to Make You Close Your Eyes will remind you of Bentley’s earlier hit, Come A Little Closer, and will be a hit later in the spring or summer.
One of the jewels on this album is the fifth cut, Here She Comes. While it may never make it to radio, this is great summertime, cruising the country back roads with the windows down song. The arrangement and melody is reminiscent of What Was I Thinking.
All in all, this a solid offering from Bentley and if you are a fan, you’ll love the album. If you are not familiar with Dierks Bentley, give it a try.
