In time for registration for summer classes that start June 1, Bainbridge College students have a new advantage for planning class schedules and their program advisement, said Dr. Marty Clay, vice president of student affairs and enrollment services.
The new Bainbridge College Academic Advising Center opened April 6 to serve all BC students registering for summer session. Registration continues through May 28.
In the center students will get help planning class schedules and registering for the courses they need to advance in their program of study.
All BC students may use the Academic Advising Center, and all new students must use it as part of their registration process, said Counselor Arlene Cook, who heads the center and the First Year Program, which are funded by Board of Regents Strategic Initiative Funds.
“The center’s mission is to assist with ensuring that students take the courses they need for their major field of study,” Cook said. “Our goal is to work with students one-on-one to enhance their skills as they start the college process.”
The Academic Advising Center is in Room 302 of the Student Center, which is the former location of the Academic Resource Center that moved to the larger facilities of the Oak Center.
Counselor Cook not only heads the First Year Experience and Advising Center, but also the Career Counseling and Disabilities Services. She is at the BC Early County Site twice monthly. She is also available for individual, academic and career counseling.
Assisting in the Advising Center, Christina Jackson-Belin also heads the Bainbridge College high school programs.
No appointment is needed for these services, but students may make an appointment. Current office hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Hours will change May 11 to July 31 when they will be 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The college will close on Fridays during the summer.
