The fourth-grade students at Potter Street Elementary received a “cool treat” for their hard work and success in mathematics. Each fourth-grader scoring 800 or higher on the mathematics section of the state Criterion Reference Competency Test, popularly know as the CRCT, enjoyed a walking trip to Dairy Queen. Upon arrival each student was treated to a Blizzard of their choice. Not to leave mathematics at school some students made use of their learning. During the walk students noticed historical markers on private homes. They learned about who presented these markers and what they represented. Asked to use their mathematics skills, some students enjoyed calculating the age of each home before other classmates. Bettie Peak from the Decatur County Schools Foundation assisted with the trip.
