Funeral services for Laverne Whitaker Collins, 84, of Bainbridge, were held Sunday, March 7, at the Mount Zion Baptist Church with Dr. Danny Shepard and Pastor Stanley Phillips officiating.
Interment followed in the church’s cemetery with Todd and Chad Dean, Heath and Brandon Boyett, Bruce Henderson and Frank Stimpson serving as active pallbearers.
Born Aug. 29, 1925, in Baker County, Ga., Mrs. Collins died on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at Tallahassee (Fla.) Memorial Hospital, after she was involved in a vehicle accident in Decatur County.
Mrs. Collins was a kitchen supervisor for the Bainbridge State Hospital, where she retired after 25 years, and was a greeter for Kmart. Mrs. Collins was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church, sewing, gardening, baking, family and grandchildren and church activities.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bloise Collins; a son, Don Collins; a sister, Guy Henry; and a brother, Garnie Whitaker.
She is survived by two daughters, Rudean Dean and Rita Boyett, both of Bainbridge; a son, Jimmy Collins of Albany, Ga.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Cox-Ware Funeral Home was in charge of services.
