Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Smith, 87, of Donalsonville, Ga., will be held Friday, April 9, at Springfield Baptist Church in Jakin, Ga., with Rev. Fred Odom officiating.
Interment followed in the Friendship Cemetery in Donalsonville, with Chad Higginbotham, Jeff Smith, Ronnie Shiver, Don Hand, Ronald Bruner, Rusty Bradley, and Tracy Smith serving as active pallbearers.
Born Aug. 10, 1922, Mrs. Smith passed away Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at Miller County Hospital in Colquitt, Ga.
Mrs. Smith graduated from Seminole County High School in 1938. She attended Springfield Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Ruth Sunday School Class and was a homemaker, enjoying quilting, working in her flowers, and being with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 68 years, A.W. Smith; a son, Greg Smith; a granddaughter, DeeDee Smith; two brothers, Hurbert Sheffield and Tom Sheffield; and two sisters, Lillie Mae Odom and Nell Brown.
Survivors include a son, Larry Smith of Donalsonville; three daughters, Marilyn Sowell of Columbia, Ala., Helen Turner of Ozark, Ala., and Karen Kimbrel of Colquitt, Ga; seven grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
