Summer YMCA day camp for 5- to 12-year-old youngsters is going well.
That was the felling expressed this week by Bainbridge-Decatur County YMCA CEO Ken Bailey.
“Activities at the camp, known as Camp Seminole, are aimed each day toward keeping the youngsters interested and entertained,” Bailey said.
Bailey explained that YMCA Day Camp is named Camp Seminole for a very specific reason.
“YMCA’s around the country have day camps for youngsters and name them for popular recreation sites in their area,” Bailey said.
“Lake Seminole and its recreational and educational facilities are known to people throughout Southwest Georgia.”
Our counselors have taken them to places like the walking trail at the river and the old train engine at the Earle May Boat Basin. There is also time for play in the YMCA gymnasium.
“In addition to the summer, we have day camp on holidays during the school year.”
Camp opens each day around 9 a.m. with a morning ceremony, which includes a devotional, an inspirational message and the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.
Camp concludes each day around 4 p.m.
During opening ceremonies, the counselors also recognize youngsters who helped other youngsters the previous day.
