Coach Latreisha Moon’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats basketball team wrapped up three strong Charles Cooper Memorial Tipoff Tournament efforts in Valdosta with a 49-32 Wednesday victory over the Ware County High School Lady Gators from Waycross, Ga.
In the tournament’s opening round on Monday, the Lady Cats bowed 63-54 to Berkmar High School from Lilburn, Ga.
The Lady Cats were led by senior Bria Harris and junior Briana Wade, who pumped in 16 points apiece, and senior April Thomas, who put in nine.
On Tuesday, the Lady Cats dropped a tough, tight 66-62 decision to the Valdosta High School Lady Wildcats.
They were led by Thomas with 24 points and Wade with 14.
After Tuesday’s loss to Valdosta, Coach Moon expressed concern about her team’s defensive efforts in their first two tournament outings.
“Our offense has been pretty good, but we are not playing the kind of defense we need to play,” she said. “We played hard and had a chance to win both of our first two tournament games.”
Coach Moon thought her team played well on both ends of the court in their Wednesday win over Ware County.
“Our defense was a lot better against Ware County,” she said. “We also had a strong rebounding performance.
“Bria Harris led us with 16 points and also pulled down 9 rebounds. Briana Wade had 8 points and 4 blocked shots. The win should give us some momentum going into regular season play.”
The Lady Cats will open their regular season this Tuesday, Nov. 30 against Malone (Fla.) High School in Malone.
Before taking over the Lady Cats program, Coach Moon coached the Malone girls team for two years, leading them to an impressive 48-16 record.
