George H. Herring III

The funeral service for George H. Herring III, M.D., Ph.D., 52, of Monterey, Calif., formerly of Bainbridge, Ga., will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Danny Shepard and the Rev. Thomas P. Long officiating.

Services will conclude at the chapel and the family will receive friends immediately following the service.

George H. Herring III, was born Sept. 6, 1958, in Bainbridge, and died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2011, in Monterey. He was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1976, and of the Baptist faith.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude and earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, a Doctor of Philosophy, and a Medical Doctorate degree from the University of Alabama. Dr. Herring completed his residency and fellowship at Harvard Medical School, McLean Hospital and was board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and the National Board of Examination Part III and licensed in California, Massachusetts and Alabama. He most recently worked in private practice at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula in California.

Survivors include his parents, Charlotte Dodson Herring and George H. Herring Jr. of Bainbridge; his sister, Melissa H. Stewart and her husband, Roger, of Albany, Ga.; his girlfriend, Tammy Marcuzzo of Monterey; his nephew, Justin Stewart; and his great-nephew, Peyton Stewart; several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.
