Lady Cats beat Syrupmaids 62-39

Bria Harris and April Thomas combined for 42 points here Saturday night to lead coach Latreisha Moon’s Bainbridge High School Lady Cats to a 62-39 victory over the Cairo High School Syrupmaids.
The win improved the Lady Cats’ season record to 12-5.
Harris pumped in 22 points to lead the way. Thomas was just behind her with 20, and Ri’Chana Jackson put in 8.
Briana Wade hit a free throw with 3:44 left in the first quarter to break a 7-7 tie and begin a 5-0 Lady Cats’ scoring run.
A short jumper by Harris at the 2:27 mark, and a driving layup off the right glass by Thomas at the 1:34 mark quickly improved the advantage from 8-7 to 12-7.
The Syrupmaids’ Alexis Tise, who finished with 11 points, broke the run and cut it to 12-9 with a jumper in the lane at the 1:20 mark, but Harris countered with a jumper at the 1:02 mark to send the Lady Cats to the second quarter with a 14-9 lead.
They opened the second quarter with an 11-0 run to take a 16-point, 25-9, lead.
The run included a layup off the right glass by Harris at the 7:42 mark, a driving layup off the right glass by Thomas at the 7:12 mark, a jumper by Harris at the 6:33 mark, a free throw by Wade at the 5:42 mark and a rebound and stick back by Bouie at the 4:10 mark.
It concluded with two free throws by Jackson at the 2:17 mark. The Lady Cats were up by 15, 28-13, at halftime.
A left baseline jumper by Jackson just 43 seconds into the third quarter put the Lady Cats up 30-13.
Behind Harris, Thomas and Jackson in the Lady Cats’ scoring column were Wade and Diamond Bouie with 5 apiece, and Jasmine Kelly with 2. Canresha Baker led the Syrupmaids with 16.
