Funeral services for Billy James Baker Sr., 85, of Donalsonville, Ga., will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with the Rev. Rollin Rathel officiating.
Burial will follow at Salem-Seminole Baptist Church Cemetery in Donalsonville with Chris Miller, Brian Chambless, Bradley Chambless, Jamie Elkins, Jamie Baker and Bobby Howard serving as pallbearers.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Evans-Skipper Funeral Home.
Mr. Baker was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Donalsonville and died Feb. 13, 2011, at his daughter’s residence. He was a member of First Freewill Baptist Church in Donalsonville, a member of the VFW, having served his country in the U.S. Navy. He was a local distributor for Gulf Oil for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a wife, Lois Pitts Baker; an infant son; two brothers, Luther and Cullen Baker, and a granddaughter, Lori Bixon.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah Frasier Baker of Donalsonville; two sons; Billy James Baker Jr. of Bradenton, Fla., and Boley Elkins and is wife, Rene, of Climax, Ga.; two daughters, Susan Baker Dahl and her husband, Tommy, of Bainbridge and Sherry Elkins Chambless and her husband, Henry, of Donalsonville; one brother, Sammy Joe Baker and his wife, Faye, of Donalsonville; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two step-sons, Carlton Frasier and Wayne Frasier; two step-daughters, Carolyn Hanna and Debbie Lashley, and three step-grandchildren.
Evans-Skipper Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
