Funeral services for Bennie Hilton Lane, 90 of Iron City, Ga., were held on Thursday, March 10, in the chapel of Evans-Skipper Funeral Home with the Rev. Jimmy Walden officiating.
Interment was at Corinth Cemetery in Iron City with Jeff Dancer, Brad Dancer, Josh Cowart, Hilton Lane, Chuck Cutchen, Brian Wells and Layton Cowart serving as pallbearers.
Mr. Lane was born in Decatur County on May 17, 1920. He died Tuesday, March 8, 2011, at Calhoun Memorial Hospital in Arlington, Ga. He worked in the Forestry Unit with Wiregrass Timber Company.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willie Hamer and Ellen Cross Lane; his wife, Ruth Williams Lane; two daughters, Tonya Maude Lane and Joy Lane Dancer, and one son, Bennie Hilton Lane Jr.; one sister, Jewell Powell, and two brothers, Hughie Carlton “Jack” Lane, Myron Lane, and a grandson, Clifton Lane Dancer.
Survivors include three sons, Roger Lane and Larry Lane, both of Iron City, and Stanley Lane of Dothan, Ala.; two daughters, Brenda Cowart of Iron City and Theresa Alexander of Headland, Ala.; one brother, Atwood Lane of Cairo; two sisters, Lucy Hornsby of Colquitt, and Martha Ann McDaniel of Iron City; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
