The Bainbridge High School junior varsity baseball team beat the Lee County Trojans 2-1 in Leesburg, Ga., last Thursday, March 31.
Matt Burke and Tate Lambert threw a combined one-hitter to lead the JV Bearcats to victory.
Burke pitched four innings, allowing one hit and one run and striking out two. Lambert pitched three innings, allowing no hits, no runs and striking out two.
In the fifth inning, BHS’ Cole Granato led off the inning with a walk. Teammates Ben Day and Reid Willis both followed with singles, and with the bases loaded, Micheal Faircloth hit an RBI single for the go-ahead run.
Great defense and pitching shut down Lee County for the final two innings. With a runner on in the bottom of the seventh, Rion Murrah and Cole Thomas turned a game-ending double play.
“It was a great win for the boys, they played a great game tonight against a great team,” head coach Travis Bearden said.
The JV Bearcats will finish up their season after spring break when they face the junior varsity Colquitt County Packers in Moultrie, Ga., on Wednesday, April 13.
