The funeral service for Gerald V. Woodward, 85, of Bainbridge, will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012, at Faceville United Methodist Church with Rev. James Olivent officiating. Interment will follow at Cool Springs Cemetery with Jody Wells, Steven Wells, David Conoly, Stanley Olivent, Jeff Jeter, Greg Jeter, Tony Wells, and Richard Conoly serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, at Ivey Funeral Home.

Gerald was born Feb. 15, 1926, in Decatur County, the son of Lloyd Lester Woodward and Lavada Eleanor Cooper Woodward. He died Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011, at Memorial Hospital. He was a graduate of Faceville High School, Class of 1942, and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a retired pulpwood dealer and a member of Morningside Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Wells Woodward; his son, Gerald “Bo” Woodward; his brothers, Lester L. Woodward and John Woodward; and his sister, Irene Dixon.

Survivors include his son, Bob Woodward of Bainbridge; his daughters, Alice W. Zorn and her husband, Neal, and Tina W. Morrison and her husband, Steve, of Bainbridge; his sisters, Ophelia Brock of Bainbridge, Tina Sowell of Panama City, Fla., and Betty June Smith of Alto Pass, Ill.; his grandchildren, Brian Zorn, Brandy Zorn Dotson, Jamie Woodward Brown, Corey Morrison and Collin Morrison; and his great-grandson, James Rayan Brown.
