The funeral service for William David Green, 69, of Bainbridge, will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Danny Shepard officiating. Interment will follow at Sylvania Cemetery with Jeff Swift, B.J. Foster, Chuck Crews, Rick Sellars, Jim Atchley, David Ruddell, Danny Bishop, and John Corley serving as active pallbearers. Current and former Georgia Department of Natural Resources employees will serve as honorary pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Ivey Funeral Home.
Mr. Green was born July 28, 1942, in Troy, Ala., the son of Thomas Jefferson Green and Velma Cargile Green. He died Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital. He was a graduate of Charles Henderson High School in Troy, Class of 1961, and received an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from Bainbridge Junior College. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War, where he served as an MP. He served as an officer with the Troy Police Department and Bainbridge Police Department before becoming a ranger with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. He retired as a captain with over 30 years of service. He was a recipient of the Ranger of the Year Award for the State of Georgia and Officer of the Year Award for Decatur County. He attended Hannatown United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 46 years, Wanda McDaniel Green of Bainbridge; his sons, Travers David Green and his wife, Danielle, of Newton, Ga., William Frank Green and his wife, Rebecca, of Bainbridge, and Berry Gavin Green and his wife, Mary, of Tallahassee; his brothers, Eugene Green of Troy, and Frank Green of Brundidge, Ala.; his sister, Frances G. King of Montgomery, Ala.; and his grandchildren, Victoria Ann Green, Cole Travers Green, Beau David Green and Blake Thomas Green.
