The funeral service for James W. Taylor, 81, of Bainbridge, will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 26, 2012 at Christian Faith Church with Rev. Ron Kirkland officiating.
Interment will follow at Brinson Cemetery with Vincent Taylor, Stephen Wright, Darrell Wright, Tony McDonald, Gene Miller and Steven Jones serving as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, at Ivey Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christian Faith Church, P. O. Box 1193, Bainbridge, GA 39818, or Hospice of Southwest Georgia, 1323 E. Shotwell Street, Bainbridge, GA 39819.
Mr. Taylor was born April 2, 1930 in Obion County, Tenn., the son of Jim Taylor and Margaret Simons Taylor. He died Monday, Jan. 23, 2012 at his residence. He was a Golden Glove Boxer in St. Louis, Mo., and held the title at the young age of 16. Mr. Taylor was the former owner and operator of Country Boys BBQ and Taylor’s Lawn Care. He was a member of Christian Faith Church.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his son, Dave Taylor; and his brother, Bill Taylor.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Debra Taylor of Bainbridge; his sons, James Taylor, Jr. and his wife, Jill of Bainbridge, Jay Taylor of Jackson, Tenn., Anthony Myers and his wife, Sheila, of Ashburn, Ga., Timothy Myers of Bainbridge, and Michael Myers and his wife Rebecca, of Brinson; his daughters, Sherma Taylor of Jackson, Tenn., Robin Taylor of Loxley, Ala., and Tina Baggett and her husband, Ivan, of Ochlocknee, Ga.; his sisters, Jean McMullen of Bonne Terre, Mo., Carmelita Kelly and her husband, J.R. of Lakeland, Fla., Helen Page of Centralia, Mo., and Bobbie Coplin and her husband, Carl, of Bonne Terre; his 19 grandchildren; and his 4 great-grandchildren.
