The victim of a Monday morning stabbing is recovering from “very serious” wounds inflicted by another woman, Bainbridge Public Safety Chief Investigator Frank Green said Friday.

The victim, a 29-year-old woman with local ties, is recovering at Tallahassee (Fla.) Memorial Hospital after undergoing emergency surgery on Monday to remove a knife blade from her chest, Chief Investigator Green said.

Green said it was fortunate that the victim, who was taken to Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge by a relative after the stabbing, received prompt medical attention.

“The emergency room personnel at [Memorial Hospital] undoubtedly saved her life,” Green said. “The blade of a kitchen knife, approximately eight inches in length, had broken off in the victim’s chest and went into her lung.”

After being stabilized, the victim was transported by ambulance to Tallahassee Memorial, where she underwent emergency surgery later that day.

The stabbing occurred shortly before 9:30 a.m. on Monday at 611 E. Water Street.

The victim’s brother said he was in Bainbridge helping the victim “move her things” when he heard his sister and another woman, later identified as Moore, arguing.

According to an incident report, the brother stated he “watched the two argue and observed Moore pull out a knife and stab [the victim] in the chest.”

Green said he did not yet want to comment on what might have led up to the stabbing, in part because police have had limited contact with the victim due to her medical condition.

He did say the victim was originally from Bainbridge, had moved to Florida and was in the process of moving back to Bainbridge on Monday when the incident occurred.
