Services for Leroy Robert Hopkins Jr., 86, of Reno, Ga., were held on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, at Bethel United Methodist Church, Reno, with Rev. Sue A. Jackson officiating.
Active pallbearers were Carroll Hopkins, Tommy Hopkins, Ben Hopkins, Jay Tyson, Walter Maxwell and Johnny Booth.
Mr. Hopkins was born March 18, 1926, in Cairo, Ga., to the late Leroy Robert Hopkins Sr. and Ora Lou Whitfield Hopkins. He passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at Thomasville Nursing and Rehab Center.
He graduated from Cairo High School then went on to attend Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, in Tifton, Ga. He served his country in the U.S. Navy.
On Feb. 25, 1949, he married Louette Harper Hopkins. Leroy served on the Grady County Board of Education and served on the Board of Family and Children Services. He later became president and owner of Hopkins Milling Company. He was an active member of Bethel United Church in Reno.
Mr. Hopkins was preceded in death by his parents, Leroy and Ora Hopkins Sr.; and a daughter, Patricia Lynn Hopkins.
At the time of his death he was survived by his wife, Louette Harper Hopkins of Reno; daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Earl Carpenter of Reno, Linda and Chip Perry of Bainbridge, Brenda Roddenbery of Cairo; sons and daughter-in-law, Bobby Hopkins of Panama City Beach, Fla., Duane and Faye Hopkins of Reno; nine grandchildren and one great grandchild; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tom and Carolyn Hopkins of Cairo, Bill and Omega “Meg” Hopkins of Marianna, Fla.
