A Bainbridge man has been charged in connection with a March 6 vehicle accident in which a four-year-old boy died, according to the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office.
Sheriff’s deputies assisted Georgia state troopers in arresting Bryan Lamar Harrell, 26, of 208 Dollar Drive, on Thursday afternoon.
The Georgia State Patrol has charged Harrell with homicide by vehicle (first degree), DUI, reckless conduct and following too closely, according to the Decatur County Jail.
Remington Walden, 4, died when the Jeep Grand Cherokee he was riding in was hit from behind by a pickup truck and the SUV caught fire.
The accident happened at the intersection of Hubert Dollar Drive and Old Quincy Road.
Walden’s aunt, Emily Newsome, was driving the Jeep—she was headed north on Old Quincy Road and was attempting to turn left onto Hubert Dollar Drive when the accident happened, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The Jeep was struck from behind by a Dodge Ram pickup truck driven by Harrell, which caused the Jeep to spin out into a ditch next to a utility pole.
State Trooper 1st Class Walt Landrum investigated the accident.
