‘Day of Action’ set for Saturday
Published 7:00 pm Tuesday, June 19, 2012
Citizens will have several different opportunities to help their community Saturday, as the United Way of Bainbridge-Decatur County holds its second “Day of Action.”
This Saturday, volunteers will be working at RISE Educational Tutoring, Inc., located at 103 E. Broad St. in Climax, from 8 a.m. until noon. RISE provides tutoring services to kindergarten through fifth-grade students and has several needs.
Volunteers will be painting a deck, doing yard work, and providing tables for the RISE building, among other jobs. However, RISE is not the only place in Decatur County that will be getting assistance from the “Day of Action.”
The Salvation Army, located at 600 S. Scott St. in Bainbridge, will also be open and taking donations from 8 a.m. until noon. Some of the items needed include canned goods and other food staples for the Salvation Army pantry, walkers, wheelchairs, and adult and children’s diapers for BAIN, and men’s business attire and Bibles for the Laymen Brotherhood Second Chance Outreach Center.
In addition, members of the Boy Scout Troop 502 are scheduled to plant three trees at the Bainbridge College’s Southwest Georgia Youth Science and Technology Center.
The first Day of Action was held in August 2011, when volunteers organized, cleaned and painted the Salvation Army building.
