Pilcher: defense was difference

A defensive adjustment by Bainbridge High School Bearcats head football coach Ed Pilcher and his staff turned Friday night’s game against the visitng Westlake High School Lions around.
Trailing 7-0 following a 21 play, 93 yard drive that culminated with a three yard touchdown pass from quarterback Renard Battle to wide receiver Daylan Rolllins, the adjustment was made.
“We decided to take out a defensive lineman and put in Justin Baker as an extra defensive back,” coach Pilcher said. “After that, we did a good job of stopping Westlake.
“Offensively I thought quarterback Damian Bouie did a great job making the right reads and running the offense.”
Pilcher thought his Bearcats running game, led by Terry Lewis, who picked up 187 yards and scored two touchdowns, was dominant.
“Westlake could not stop our running game, particularly up the middle,” he said. “Terry Lewis got a lot of his yardage running straight ahead. Our offensive line did a good blocking job.”
The Bearcats have an open date this Friday night and will return to action Friday, Oct. 5, when they travel to Thomas County for a big Region 1-AAAAA game against the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets.
“With the open date this week we will practice Monday through Thursday and give the players Friday off,” Pilcher said. “Thomas County Central also has an open date before our game with them.”
