The Decatur County Forestry Pageant will be held Oct. 20 at the Decatur County Memorial Coliseum in Bainbridge.
Girls who enter the pageant will compete in seven age groups, from Baby (0-23 months) all the way up to Miss (17 to 23 years). Contestants ages 9 and younger will wear heirloom/Sunday style dresses.
The Baby-Tiny Miss pageant will begin at 5:30 p.m. at the coliseum. The Little-Miss pageant will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the same location.
Each girl will have a box in the front lobby of the coliseum and people can put money in those for “people’s choice” — the winner of people’s choice will be eligible to win Miss Hospitality. All proceeds from the Miss Hospitality donations will benefit Ronnie Martin, a retired chief ranger with the Georgia Forestry Commission’s Decatur County unit, who was recently treated for lung cancer.
All winners will advance to the Miss Georgia Forestry Pageant, which is held in June 2013, in Tifton, Ga.
The baby-little age divisions will be natural and girls will compete in heirloom type dresses. The Teen and Miss contestants will compete in interview (which is private and will be held earlier that day), speech, and evening gown.
The Little-Miss pageant will perform an opening number choreographed by Kacee Sellers, an instructor with Lucretia’s School of Dance, to a medley of songs from the popular “Sister Act” movies.
Dancers from Lucretia’s School of Dance will also perform.
The pageant’s organizers are Valerie Faircloth and Jessica Thompson, who are both former Decatur County Forestry Queens.
