Mr. Lee Powell, 84, of Arlington, Ga., died early Monday morning, March 11, 2013, at the Southwest Georgia Regional Medical Center in Cuthbert, Ga.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at 4 p.m., in the Arlington United Methodist Church, with Rev. Charles Puryear officiating. The active pallbearers will be Sean Avera, Vaughn Avera, Lance Avera, Ed Ellington, Kevin Wilkins and Jason Wilkins. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.

Mr. Powell was born July 12, 1928, in Arlington, to the late Oscar Powell and Cora Lee Johnson Powell. He received his master’s degree in education and was an educator and principal for several county school systems, and was Headmaster at Oaks Academy in Brinson. He was a U. S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict, and member of the VFW Post in Bainbridge and the Bainbridge Lions Club.

His survivors include his wife, Betty Avera Powell of Arlington; sons, Raymond Lee Powell Jr. and Angel of Bainbridge, Christopher Torrey Powell and Shannon of Leesburg, Ga. and Joshua Joel Powell and Marcia of Thomasville, Ga. There are five Powell grandchildren: Dallas, Marianna, Marissa, Madison and Ethan.

Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home, Inc., of Blakely, Ga., is in charge.
