Mrs. Joyce Mitchell Stone, 92, died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013, at Bethany Home Nursing Center, in Vidalia, Ga.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of First Baptist Church, with Dr. John Waters and Dr. H. William Perry officiating. A graveside funeral service will be held on Sunday, May 5, at 2 p.m., at Crossroads Cemetery in Damascus, Ga.
Honorary pallbearers will be the members of the Seekers Sunday School Class.
The Damascus, Ga., native was a graduate of Damascus High School and attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville. In January 1942, she married Ralph Stone and moved with him to Brooklyn, N.Y., where he entered the U.S. Army. Following World War II they moved to Bainbridge until the late 1970s, where she owned and operated Joyce’s Gifts and Interiors. In 1978 she moved to Savannah, Ga., and worked with Ethan Allen Carriage House as an interior designer. Mrs. Joyce moved to Statesboro in 1991 and worked with L.A. Waters Furniture for many years until her retirement. When she lived in Savannah Mrs. Joyce was a member and deacon of the First Baptist Church of Savannah. In Statesboro, she was a member of the First Baptist Church of Statesboro and a member of the Seekers Sunday School Class.
Surviving are her sons and daughters-in-law Kenny and Julie Stone of Statesboro and John and Rebecca Stone of Roswell, Ga.; four grandchildren, Laura Lee (Patrick) Hopkins, Rebecca (Ryan) Hooker, Mitch Stone and Michael Stone; four great-grandchildren also survive.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund, 108 North Main Street Statesboro, GA 30458, or to the charity of donor’s choice.
