AUGUSTA, Ga. – Young Harris College’s Whitney Thomas has been named the Peach Belt Conference’s Women’s Soccer Player of the Week ending Sept. 8.
Thomas, a 5-foot-3 senior forward from Bainbridge, Ga., scored in both of the Mountain Lions’ games during the opening weekend of competition. She began with her team down 1-0 to Shorter University on Sept. 5. Coming with just over 15 minutes to play, Thomas’ goal sent the match into overtime, where YHC won 2-1. Young Harris (1-1-0) returns to the pitch Wednesday (Sept. 11) at 5 p.m. when they host North Greenville University in a match played at the YHC Lacrosse Field.
Thomas was a three-time All-Region soccer player at Bainbridge High School under Coach Chip Ariail and is currently the leading goal-scorer in Bearcat history. She is majoring in communications studies and her parents are David and Jenni Thomas.
