Sarah Elizabeth Knight, 89, of Bainbridge, passed away Thursday, November 6, 2014 at Memorial Manor Nursing Home.

The funeral service in Bainbridge, will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2014, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Randy Mosley officiating. There will be a graveside funeral service in Fitzgerald, Georgia, at 4 p.m. on Monday, November 10, 2014, at Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery. Her grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. on Monday, November 10, 2014 prior to the funeral service at First United Methodist Church. Mrs. Knight was born August 30, 1925, in Abbeville, Georgia, the daughter of Jule Aden Smith and Sarah Elizabeth Hunter Smith. She was a pastor’s wife and dedicated homemaker. Mrs. Knight was the first licensed female pastor in South Georgia United Methodist Church Conference. She also served as church secretary, Sunday school teacher, and a life member of WSCS (UMW). She was gifted musically and shared her gift as a member of the choir and church pianist. Mrs. Knight led many mission studies and was a constant student of God’s Word. She has a Sunday School class named in her honor at Morningside United Methodist Church in Albany, Georgia.

Survivors include her children, Glenn Knight and his wife, Linda, of Abbeville, Jim Ed Knight and his wife, Mary Frances, of Magnolia Manor in Americus, Ga.; Mary Knight Robinson and her husband, Dr. Don Robinson, of Bainbridge, and Tim Knight and his wife, Gaye, of Dublin, Ga.; her grandchildren, Krisanne, April, Mark, Steven, Debbie, Phillip, Misti, Tal, Laura, Josh, and Hunter; and her great-grandchildren, Austin, Kaylee, Jarrett, Logan, Haley, Holt, and Harper; nephews, Danny Smith and Ronnie Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Dr. Clarence Foster Knight, Jr.; and her siblings, Bryant Smith, Jake Smith, and Robert Smith.
