Former Bainbridge High School Bearcats All Region 1-AAAAA offensive tackle Chris Johnson will be beginning his second season with the Savannah State University Tigers football team this fall.
Johnson played under Bearcats head football coach Jeff Littleton. As a Bearcat senior track performer in 2014, he won the Region 1-AAAAA Championship in the shot put with a heave of 45-feet-7-inches and advanced to the State Class AAAAA Sectionals hosted by the Starrs Mill High School Panthers.
He had outstanding performances in the shot put and discus and received the Coaches Award for making what Bearcats track coach Larry Cosby called great strides in both events.
“Chris Johnson had as much drive and desire as any track performer I have ever coached.” Coach Cosby said. “He was totally focused in practice and meets and I know that he is also extremely focused on the football field.”
Last season, local fans had a chance to see Johnson play well in Tallahassee during a 24-14 Tigers loss to the Florida A&M Rattlers. In 2015, the Tigers will host the Rattlers Saturday, Oct. 3, in Savannah.
Johnson, who will be returning to Savannah State this fall, is studying at Bainbridge State College this summer.
