Lady Cougars volleyball defeats former region champs at Perry Memorial Gym

Coach Erwin Harrell’s Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougars volleyball team improved their Georgia Independent Schools Association record to 4-0 and their overall record to 7-1 with a 3-1 victory over St. Simons Island’s Federica Academy Lady Knights Friday at Perry Memorial Gymnasium.
The Lady Cougars won the first and second sets by identical 25-17 scores, were edged 26-24 in the third set and won the fourth set 25-16.
Among those leading the way were Kelsey Harrell with 13 kills, and Kaitlyn Holcombe and Abigail Mills with 8 kills apiece.
Top servers were Sarah Castors, who converted 14 of 15 for 93 percent, Lindsey Duke, for converted 13 of 14 for 93 percent, and Kelsey Harrell, who converted 11 of 12 for 92 percent. Sarah Castoro had 12 digs, Kelsey Harrell had 8 digs and Lindsey Duke had 30 assists.
“This was a big region win for us tonight,”’ coach Harrell said following the match. “Frederica has one of the strongest programs in the state,” coach Harrell said after the match. “They made it to the final four the past two years and were state champs in 2012. Our ladies played hard tonight and good things happened. We were very active defensively. We also passed the ball well tonight having 143 attack attempts.”
