J.V. Bearcats shut out Cairo with strong run game

Dalvin Spivie ran for two touchdowns Thursday in Cairo to lead the Bainbridge High School junior varsity Bearcats to a 21-0 victory over the Cairo High School junior varsity Syrupmakers, improving their record to 2-0-1.
Spivie ran two yards off the right side for a touchdown to culminate a 70-yard first quarter drive. Blake Green kicked the extra point to give the Bearcats an early 7-0 advantage.
In the second quarter Spivie ran four yards off the right side for a touchdown to culminate a 56-yard first quarter drive and Blake Green again kicked the extra point giving the Bearcats a 14-0 lead which they maintained until halftime.
In the fourth quarter, quarterback Brent Loeffler scored from a yard out and Green kicked the extra point to put the final seven points on the board.
Bearcats running backs coach Larry Cosby said he was extremely proud of the junior varsities play Thursday against Cairo.
“Our young men showed a lot of heart and desire against Cairo,” coach Cosby said. “They ran hard and blocked and tackled well.”
The junior varsity Bearcats will return to action next Thursday, September 24, when they travel to Blakely to take on the Early County junior varsity Bobcats.
After a Thursday, October 8, game with the Thomas County Central Middle School junior varsity Yellow Jackets, they will return home for a Thursday, October 15, game with the Cairo High School junior varsity Syrupmakers at Centennial Field. They will close out their season Thursday, October 22, against the Early County junior varsity Bobcats at home.
