Margaret Carr Gholston Griffin, 80, of 100 Pine Circle Dr., Blakely, Ga., died Monday morning at her residence. Her family is having her funeral Friday morning, Dec. 18, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Blakely with Rev. Dwight Bishop and Dr. Alex Howell officiating.
The family will receive friends following the service in the Sanctuary. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. in the Oak City Cemetery in Bainbridge, with Anthony Howard, Jamie Crozier, Billy Davis, Kyle Kornegay, Mitch Clarke and Toby Warr acting as pallbearers. Jim Clinkscales will be an honorary pallbearer.
Margaret was born Dec. 22, 1934 in Union Springs, Alabama to the late Bennett Eley Gholston and Margaret Hattie Wright Gholston. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and a retired caseworker for the Department of Family and Children’s Services. She received her Home Economics B.A. Degree from the University of Georgia.
Other than her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward Glenn Griffin. Her survivors include two daughters, Cynthia Griffin Glynn and husband Lenny of Seale, Alabama and Cile Griffin Warr and husband Woodie of Bainbridge, Ga.; a son Glenn Griffin III and wife Dana of Atlanta; a sister Cornelia G. Johnson and husband Wyatt of Atlanta. There are also eight grandchildren.
In lieu of Flowers, the family requests that donations be made to either the Grace Christian Academy,1302 Lake Douglas Rd., Bainbridge, GA 39819, the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 265, Blakely GA 39823 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
