Bearcats basketball gets region win against Westover

Tyree Crump poured in a game-high 18 points here Tuesday night, leading the Bainbridge High School Bearcats to a 58-44 Region 1-AAAA victory over the Westover High School Patriots.
A slam-dunk by Trevon Shaw and a jumper from the left side by Tyree Crump at the 6:20 and 5:13 marks of the first quarter gave the Bearcats an 8-4 lead. They led by two, 12-10, at the end of the first quarter.
Another slam dunk by Shaw with 5:30 left in the second quarter put the Bearcats up by five 17-12. They led by 26-21 at halftime. A jumper by Crump with 3:40 left in the third quarter put the Bearcats up by nine, 34-25.
Another three-point jumper by Crump put the Bearcats up 37-25. They led 39-32 after three quarters. Myles Thomas, who finished with 13 points, hit a jumper from the left side to open the fourth quarter putting the Bearcats ahead by nine, 41-32, The Bearcats then outscored the Patriots 17-12 in the fourth quarter to put the game away.
“We continue to hustle and play hard,” Bearcats head coach Rickey McCullough said after the game. “Our final two games, Friday night against the Worth County High School Rams in Sylvester, and Saturday night against the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets at home, are important Region 1-AAAA games. We will conclude the regular season with a Region 1-AAAA game against the Americus-Sumter County High School Panthers Friday, Feb. 5, in Americus.
