Bainbridge Public Safety and Decatur County Fire and Rescue responded to a house fire on Zorn Rd. Friday morning. A sheriff’s deputy reportedly spotted smoke when he was driving past.
The owner of the house was not present when BPS and the Sheriff’s office arrived on scene.
The fire was reportedly contained to the bedroom and the source was believed to be on the floor near the entrance to the bedroom. The investigation into the cause of the fire is ongoing according to BPS Fire Chief Doyle Welch. Bainbridge City Marshall Trey Mock assisted in the investigation to see if faulty wiring in the wall caused the fire. This was ruled out because the burn marks were on the outside of the wall and there was no evidence that flames originated from within the wall. The fire is currently being investigated as accidental, but the no cause has been determined. A representative from Georgia Power was also on the scene.
