DCSO investigating man’s attack on wife, child with ‘bladed weapon’

Carolyn Burr had to be life-flighted to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital Sunday night after Decatur County deputies responded to a reported domestic incident at her residence on Clear Lake Drive.

Eddie Lewis Jr., 38, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, cruelty to a child in the first degree and cruelty to child in the third degree.

“I was called out 11 o’clock Sunday,” DCSO Investigator Cheryl Nix said. “One of the deputies on scene said that they had gotten a call to a domestic. Once they got there, the back door was open and there was a lot of blood at the scene.”

Blood was found on the back deck and in the kitchen area of the residence. According to Nix, witnesses say Lewis attacked Burr and their juvenile child with a “bladed weapon.” Burr suffered life-threating injuries during the attack and the juvenile female suffered minor injuries from the same weapon according to Nix.

“[Burr] is stable now, it was kind of a little touch and go for a while,” Nix said. “The daughter was present and did sustain injures as well, but her’s were not life threating at all or anything that required her going to the hospital.”

After the attack, Burr fled out the back door to the next-door neighbor’s house where DCSO officers made contact with her. The juvenile fled via the front door to the house across the street.

According to Nix, Burr suffered severe injuries to her upper body including her head, arms and back. A reason for the attack has not been determined as Lewis requested a lawyer before bonding out Tuesday morning and although she is now stable, Burr has been unable to talk to investigators.

“He definitely attacked her, we’re not sure why, but we know that he definitely attacked her,” Nix said. “Brutally attacker her.”

The investigation is ongoing.
