The Grace Christian Academy Lady Cougar volleyball team is off to a hot start to the season, as they remain undefeated through three games. Overall the Lady Cougars are yet to drop a set on the year.
They started the season with a three set victory over Fredrica Academy in St. Simmons and then defeated Memorial Day in Savannah in straight sets.
The Lady Cougars returned home on Monday where they defeated Northside Methodist from Dothan three sets to none. They took the first set in convincing fashion 25-14 and battled to win the second set 25-22 and the third set 25-23.
“It being hot in here was tough,” assistant coach Joey Lee said. “Our girls were here for the JV and some of our girls coached JV so being for two and half hours before they were pretty exhausted. The second was pretty hard. Kind of had to struggle through the second set.”
The Lady Cougars have been led by Kaitlyn Holcombe on offense and Sarah Castoro on defense so far this season.
“[Castoro] doesn’t let the ball hit the ground,” Lee said. “Keeps everybody pumped up. She’s just there all the time. You see the ball coming over and you think who’s going to be there and she’s in position. She’s never out of position. Always making good plays.”
Addie Elkins, Abigail Mills and freshman Mikey Harrell have also played a big role in the Lady Cougars hot start.
They hosted Georgia Christina School on Tuesday and will return to the court on Friday for a home doubleheader against First Presbyterian.
