GCA defeats Brookwood for the first time

It took a second half comeback and overtime, but the Grace Christian Academy boys’ basketball team secured its first ever victory over Brookwood School on Friday with a final score of 41-39.
The Cougars took a 14-12 lead at the end of the first quarter, but fell behind in the second quarter as Brookwood outscored them 12-6 in the period.
GCA fought back in the third quarter outscoring Brookwood 9-5 to tie the game entering the fourth. The two teams then traded blows in the final period and the game ended tied at 39 all.
The Cougars were able to come out on top at the end of the extra period for a 41-39 victory.
“The guys played great,” head coach Mallory McRae said. “This is the first time we’ve beaten Brookwood. After a rough game Tuesday, I was very pleased with how the guys responded. They played great defense and executed the offense extremely well.”
Sam McRae finished the game as the team’s leading scorer with 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting. He did most of his damage from behind the arc going 5-for-9 from 3-point range. He also had eight rebounds and two steals. Caleb Carr was second on the team with eight points. He led the team with three steals.
The Cougars will take a break for the Christmas holidays before retuning to the court on Tuesday, Jan. 3, against Crisp Academy.
