A bad first quarter proved to be to much to overcome for the Grace Christian Academy girls, who fell to Crisp Academy with a final score of 19-54.
Crisp jumped out to a big lead, scoring 28 points in the first quarter to Graces 3 points. 28-3
A 25-point gap to start the game is not easy to overcome, and the Lady Cougars weren’t able to handle it. They were able to stop the bleeding a little bit in the second quarter and keep it under control for the remainder of the game, but it was still too much to overcome.
The Lady Cougars never out-scored their opponent in a quarter of play, but managed to stay competitive in the final three quarters. The second quarter Grace put up 4 points and only gave up 7. They scored 4 points again in the third, and only gave up 9. The fourth quarter saw a sign of life from the Lady Cougars, who put up 8 points, but still game up 10.
Mikey Harrell and Kaitlyn Holcombe both led the Lady Cougars in scoring with 7 points. Only two other Lady Cougars managed to score, Caroline Wells scored 2 points and Addie Elkins scored 3 points.
Harrell also led in rebounding, grabbing four.
The Lady Cougars next game is against Westwood on Friday, Jan. 6, in Camilla.
