Bainbridge High School wrestler Ryan Adams and Tre’ Storey continue their quests to place in the state tournament after they both picked up key wins over the first two days.
Adams, who wrestles in the 285-pound weight class, easily won his first two matches to advance to the state semifinals.
“My first match, I had the first match jitters so I didn’t do too good, but I won” Adams said. “I head and armed him in the second round and pinned him. My second match, I pretty much did what I was supposed to do. I pinned him and I was winning 10-2 with 5-second left in the second round.”
On Friday evening he faced his toughest test yet in the state semifinals against Martez Hudson from Carrollton.
“I’m about to wrestle pretty much the hardest person in my bracket,” Adams said before the match Friday afternoon. “This match is about me getting my points and then wrestling smart.”
Storey won his first match in the 195-pound class, but suffered his first lost in the quarterfinals of the double elimination tournament. A responded by winning in the second round of the consolation bracket to put himself one win away from clinching a top six place.
“He threw a perfect head an arm in his second match, the dude slipped out and he got caught in the move and he got pinned,” Adams said of Storey. “He was 1-1 yesterday and then today he had to win a match to stay in it He won that match and he wrestled perfectly. He beat the guy 22-8 and it was beautiful. He wrestled just like he was supposed to.”
Storey also wrestled Friday evening.
