Tawan Nichols Barber, 53, of Bainbridge, Ga., passed away Friday, February 24, 2017.

The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Monday, February 27, 2017, at Bethany Baptist Church with Dr. Ron McCaskill officiating. Interment followed at Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery with Gary Nichols, Donnie Ray Miller, John Wayne Barber, Duane Tate, Joey Earnest and Jonathan Nichols serving as active pallbearers.

The family received friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Sunday, February 26, 2017, at Ivey Funeral Home. Online visitors may sign the guest register at www.iveyfuneral.com.

Clara Tawan Nichols was born March 28, 1963, in Bainbridge, the daughter of Tarvin Morris Nichols and Clara Jean Cloud Nichols. Tawan was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1981. She lived most of her life in Bainbridge and worked as a bookkeeper for Georgia Diesel. She was a member of Calvary Assembly of God.

Tawan was quite a character. She never met a stranger and loved everyone. She spent time every day making the rounds checking on people. Tawan enjoyed singing and could sing most anything. Often she shared her heart with a song.

Survivors include her brother, Morris Nichols and his wife, Jennifer, of Bainbridge; her mother-in-law, Ruby “Granny” Barber; and lots of loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and sisters-in-law. Tawan was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Joe Barber.
