Henry B. Spooner, III, 84, of Fowlstown, Ga., passed away Tuesday, April 4, 2017.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 8, 2017, at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Oak City Cemetery with Cody Vaughn, Chase Vaughn, Juan Castro, Justin Dollar, Zach Brock and Melvin Davis serving as active pallbearers. Pete Stephens, Robert Stephens, Ronnie Boyce, Johnny Dollar, Donald Barber, Ronald Barber, Mike Brock, and Van Smith will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Henry Byron Spooner, III was born January 13, 1933, in Penlan, Va., the son of Henry Byron Spooner, Jr. and Ruth Jones Spooner. After graduating from Bainbridge High School, Class of 1950, Henry went into the United States Navy serving in the Korean War. He was a dispatcher at Bowman Trucking Company in Atlanta before retiring and moving back to Fowlstown to farm and raise cattle at Spooner Farms. Henry was a member of Calvary Baptist Church and the Attapulgus Masonic Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Coleen McRae Spooner of Fowlstown; his children, Gil F. Spooner and his wife, Pat, of Colquitt, Ga.; and Susan Spooner Gunnin and her husband, Victor, of Tyrone, Ga.; his grandchildren, Victoria Gunnin, Morgan Gunnin, Natalie Spooner, Ashley Spooner, Ritchie Vaughn, and Candy Moore; his four cousins, Elizabeth F. LeSueur, Janice Morgan Jones, Michele Jones, and Michael Jones; five great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Henry was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Henry B. “Hank” Spooner, IV and his sister, Ann Spooner Maltby.
