Man sent to hospital after brutal ax attack

A man is behind bars after attacking another man with an axe Monday on Mount Olive Church Road after a dispute.
Cameron Slade, 26, is in custody after his father called 911 following some comments that Slade made to him. Bainbridge Public Safety responded to the call and involved the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office since the incident occurred in the county per Deputy Sheriff Wendell Coeffer.
Upon arrival to the scene of the incident, DCSO recovered the weapon and found the victim.
The victim was then taken by life-flight to Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee and then was taken to Gainsville for further medical treatment. He had severe lacerations to the skull, one laceration across the face as well as severe damage to his left hand.
Deputy Terry Phillips interviewed the suspect Tuesday afternoon to get his side of the event.
“The suspect admitted to being under the influence of ice, methamphetamine, and possibly other unknown drugs over the past couple of days,” said Phillips. “He also stated that he had received info that this individual possibly might have inappropriately touched his eight year old daughter.”
Per Phillips, Slade admitted to committing the crimes during his interview.
The incident is still under investigation, and DCSO is looking into all sides of the story according to Phillips.
Slade is charged with aggravated assault with intent to murder and aggravated battery.
