Mr. Samuel Chatman Tant, age 88, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017, in Cape Coral, Florida. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 14, 2017, 2 p.m., in Oak City Cemetery, Bainbridge, Georgia. Friends and family will gather at the Cadwell Chapel of Cox Funeral Home, Friday, 10 a.m.-12 noon.
Samuel Chatman Tant was born January 1, 1929, in Bainbridge, Georgia, to Hezekiah and Mary Inez Tant. He was a Navy Veteran serving four years in the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, he enrolled and graduated from the McAllister School of Mortuary Science. In 1967, Sam opened the first locally owned funeral home in Cape Coral; he also provided the first ambulance service. He served the Cape Coral area as a funeral director until his retirement in 2003. Throughout his life he was very active in the community…as a scout master in the Boy Scouts, with the Kiwanis Club, the Florida Lions Eye Bank, and as a member of the Cape Coral Chamber of Commerce, the Shrine Club and as a Mason.
He is survived by three children.
