As the Arts Council completes the renovation of the Kirbo Room at the Arts Center, they will honor local artists with month-long displays of their work. It is expected to open in April.
In addition, there will be recognition for a student artist of the month. The first student to be so honored is Yasman Guzman, a senior at Bainbridge High School who placed first in the ceramics, pottery division at the Sunday, May 11 Student Art Show, for her creation called “Under the Sea.”
Yasman said she plans to continue her love for art, but only as a hobby. Her career goal is to become a pediatrician. She plans to attend Valdosta State University, thdn go on to Mercer for medical schooling.
Her fascination with art began early when she entered a drawing of bunnies in a Kindergarten exhibit and won first place. She gives credit to her art teachers, first Donald (Chip) Ariail then Rebecca Cole in highschool.
Her winning pottery was inspired by a desire to have a lot of color, which she related to seeing a coral reef.
She wants to keep her creation in her room and use it to store her long paint brushes.
