Henry J. “Hank” Shaffer, 82, of Brinson, Ga., formerly of Ohio, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2018. A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Henry J. Shaffer was born November 19, 1935, in Ohio, the son of Berle and Treda Shaffer. Hank proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked as a meat cutter until his retirement. Hank moved south fifteen years ago, making his home in Southwest Georgia where he attended Bethel Baptist Church.

Hank has been described as “the life of the party”. Never meeting a stranger, he was considered a friend to everyone. He was kind and caring. Those who knew him well often said, “He would give you the shirt off his back.”  Family was important to Hank and he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include the mother of his children and dear friend, Sandra Shaffer; his children, Bruce Shaffer of Eaton, Ohio, Angie Downey and her husband, Jerry, of Greenville, Ohio, and Cindy Freeman and her husband, Henry, of Brinson; his grandchildren, Bryon, Jodie, Casey, Katelyn, Chelsey and Daniel; his great-grandchildren, Ryleigh, Elleigh, Brody, Kaden, Caleigh, Alexis and Kyle; and his close friend, Ila Reed. Hank was preceded in death by his parents; and his siblings, Nora, Elizabeth and Bud.
